I think that geolocation and time-relation are two complementary features
that should be implemented in every blog.
Through time-relation you can write someting on the web (a blog post, for
example) about an event or any othe time-related-resource and specify, in a
semantic way, WHEN this event will happen or has happened. You can share it
through standard formats like iCal, put it in your personal desktop agenda
ecc.
Through geolocation you can write someting on the web (a blog post, for
example) about a place, or an event or any othe space-related-resource and
specify, in a semantic way, WHERE it will happen or has happened. You can
share it through standard formats like geoRss, add it to your personal map
of interesting locations (Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps…) ecc.
My preferred Wordpress plugin for geolocation is GeoPress <
http://georss.org/geopress >, while my preferred Wordpress plugin for
time-relation is EventCalendar3 < http://wpcal.firetree.net/ >.
I have installed both, but they don't work together: if I install Geopress,
the EventCalendar + button of the event description form in "Write post"
section stops working…
Can I suggest to the two teams to collaborate to the creation of two
compatible plugins and to a set of widgets that interact each other?
For example:
- display all the events on a single map
- display all events of a specific events-subcategory (concerts, conferences
etc.) on a single map
- display all the events in a specific month on a single map
…
Look also at iCal4WP <http://gestadieu.free.fr/blog/?page_id=37>, that
integrates both functions… (but it doesn't work on my WordPress 2.2, maybe
for another plugin incompatibility).
Thank you very much
