now is the time to bring this up again. i'd be happy to work on a draft.
we could even start with the BBOX stuff.

This is something I've wanted to see for a long, long time.

A while back I worked on a microformat-based approach (hCard and adr/geo)
for a local search product I was involved in. That product never shipped,
so unfortunately the specification was never published. The nice thing
about that approach was that it layered well with more structured elements,
like georss and gml, but it also degraded very nicely when accessed by a
"dumb" client spoke only html.

You can read some of the general thinking about how to extend OpenSearch
with microformats here:

http://www.opensearch.org/Documentation/Recommendations/OpenSearch_and_microformats

And here:

These days, while I'm still keen on seeing something done with microformats,
I'd be content to simply see a more straightforward proposal written (and a
working server implementation!) that incorporates a bit of georss, gml, or
kml, etc.

Pat, I know you've been having these chats with Gregor Rothfuss as well
(cc-ed here). My hope is that this converges on a draft soon, and I'd be
very happy to publish it on the opensearch.org website for all to share.
