They're not "undefined" - they're just part of the 3-dimensional
coordinates (optionally). Which is nicer than GeoRSS in that it lets
you easily define 3-dimensional lines/paths. And when you do use
altitude, you can specify if it means relativeToGround or absolute
(default assumes clampToGround)
It's actually one of the things I like about KML :)
