[georss] [OWS-4-SWE] KML into OGC - OpenSearch for SWE

Pat,
We want both .. just quickly implemented the "something in somewhere" method since that fit use in the firefox search.
There's current both keyword and bbox search in mapufacture, http://mapufacture.com/feed/search/
which visualize and generate GeoRSS. Combining keyword and bbox search would be easy, has been a feature request
for a while, and I will probably try and implement if I have a quiet moment in the next couple days.
So how can this be specified in an OpenSearch template?
Mikel

Mikel,
Do we want the GIS search to be implicit or explicit?
> To search spatially, use the format "Something" in "Somewhere".
This is very intriguing but not an obvious capability when you look at your template. I actually like it very much.
Another issue is the reliance on a geonames-like service. Especially for users in an intranet.
Could you also do : something within bbox?
How would we explain that capability to the users?
Andrew mentioned a possible bbox parameter. This would need to be added to the OpenSearch template.
When the browser sees that parameter option, it (or an OGC plugin) could bring up a map for user input??
Note: For people that missed it.
Go there: http://mapufacture.com/ and view source chart with Firefox.
You will see in the head section:
The simple fact of having that line allows the browser to add an option to Add Mapufacture as a new search engine when you click on search dropdown.
The specified file: http://mapufacture.com/mapufacturesearch.xml indicate the search template to use for casual browsing.
This is the template that we could enhance for GIS search.
We could also support search suggestions. This could return geographic areas?
Pat.

OpenSearch is something we're eager to explore with mapufacture.
We've dipped our toe in the water and created an opensearch description
for firefox. At any mapufacture.com page, you can add mapufacture
search to the search toolbar.
To search spatially, use the format "Something" in "Somewhere".
For example, "rain in england"
http://mapufacture.com/feed/search/keyword/rain+in+england
Your results may vary..
The Somewhere part is geocoded via the Geonames API, and
the Something is searched for within GeoRSS items in that region.
Also related to recent threads, we'll soon be changing the tagline of mapufacture
from "the GeoRSS aggregator" to something less format specific, since it'll start
aggregating and searching KML, geo microformats, and anything else we can
get around to coding.
