This is true. It is our responsibility as users and as their clients to 
ask for it and to insist. They will never sit together and agree on a 
common format if we don't ask for it. If there are many competing pseudo 
standards or if we are locked in to a single vendor then we have to 
blame ourselves. It is our duty to engage in mailing lists, to raise our 
voice, to sign feature requests and to blog about it :
