Both and more. RSS is used for a lot more than news. The objective is to provide a lingua franca for machine readable basic geometries. Support is now very widespread, you may have seen that a little company called Google now supports GeoRSS. Our objectives are being met.

GeoRSS itself is approaching solidification, with 1.0 in the fall and plans for extending the GML serialization with a limited number of concepts is one of the subjects of today's meeting.

It would be helpful if your group could define the target of GeoRSS.  I
assume it is either:
 

  
 

1.   
Packing geographic information
into RSS to assist in describing news events.
 

2.   
Describing geographically news
events and documents independent of RSS.
 

  
 

If it is 1., then I would suggest we try to make use of GML/KML as much
as possible.
 

  
 

If it is 2., then I would suggest we try to focus on the requirements of
that task – what makes it different from other tasks? How do we separate
(or do we) communicating geographic information or geographic context from the
presentation of geographic information.
 

  
 

Seems like a dumb question I know – but what is the objective?
