Would be interest to consult the discussion of other similar scale projects. For instance, what led Atom contributors to form AtomEnabled Alliance? Are there other projects that didn't go the route of a formal copyright holder? What are the advantages/disadvantages? Are there any currently existing organizations that could hold the copyright, if necessary?

Totally, I wouldn't want to get bogged down in the formalization process.
