Dear All
In Hong Kong the government is moving its focus of slope safety from man made slopes to natural
terrain landslide risk. As such landslide hazard assessments involving geomorphological mapping are
an increasing component of work carried out by engineering geologists here
Examples of the use of such maps include:
http://www.cedd.gov.hk/eng/publications/geo_reports/geo_rpt138.htm
http://www.cedd.gov.hk/eng/publications/guidance_notes/doc/tgn22.pdf
Other forms of geomorphological mapping includes regional terrain assessments undertaken in the late
1980s as part of the Geotechnical Area Studies Programme (see Dearman in his book on Engineering
Geological Mapping)
A pilot area study is currently being let to assess the use of geomorphological maps for landslide
hazard in more detail
http://www.cedd.gov.hk/eng/tender/agreements/invitation/ce_56_2006.htm
I hope to be involved in this study and so can provide input from these and other examples
